On the Perfect as Enemy of the Good

This UFO guy is making the news now, and has his interview on the internet. Apparently he's an ex Apollo astronaut and the sixth man to walk on the moon. What do I think about this? I don't think it will ammount to anything. There seems to be an almost set belief system of little gray men with big saucer eyes that everyone adhers to. He says governments are opening up and revealing documents, and that our own government may soon tell us the Truth. Again, I don't think so. Back in our first set of blog postings in April of 2006 in "Escape from Egypt" I did a thing on The Prime Directive, although when you read it, it has more to do with man's relationship to animals. People are looking for some Power from beyond to enlighten them. As the guy said, if their motive were to destroy us we'd be gone by now. Last night they had one of those episodes on Smallville that ticked me off the first time I saw it. It was about a Black guy who obtained Super powers by chewing kryptonite gun. And of course it's Clark's duty to "keep the nigger down" so to speak. Clark has to be the only superhero on the show and he's the only one who can be trusted to "handle" the super powers, although on the show he is doing precious little with them in the way of benefiting society as a whole. What we see on this show in microcosum is what we also see in "The Church" when it comes to "The Church" being the sole oracle of perfection. To these people to merely do something "because it's a good thing to do" is insufficient. Carried to its logical argument it would go "Saving the world from evil may be a good thing for us but it isn't God's best". This attitude is "refined" further by the Calvary Chapels who say "The reason why we won't help you is that "God's Best" is "out there, waiting for you" and we don't want to interfere with it. I think the truth is simpler than all that. These people are driven by a supreme Egoism and vanity and think they are the sole repository of knowledge and power. They see themselves cornering the market on all supernatural powers". Of course on the Superman show it just so happens that every other visitor from Krypton is some kind of evil, homocidal maniac. To keep people in ignorance is to maintain an illicit and selfish power over them. I will say this about the Federation and the Romulans. Roomer has it that some select people have been meeting from each side and both agree there is some sort of rapture or transportation of souls from Planet Earth in the near future. The best guess date for that is September 21st. 2009, so you might circle it on your callendar.

THE SEVEN VIRTUES

I stumbled on a thing with Pope Gregory, who in addition to doing the seven deatly sins, also did the seven virtues. I would like to do my own set of virtues and vices now. The first virtue is FAITHFULNESS, FADELITY. This means being true. True to your moral code, true to yourself, true to your spouse and your other loyalties. The corosponding vice is FLAKINESS, and also Deceit and Dishonisty Treachery.

HOPE: Hope means to believe in the basic good of mankind and God's creation. Its corosponding vices are Negativity and Jadedness and Doubt. It's amazing how many Scientology engrams are connected with unfounded doubt. This is truely a crippling vice.

CHARITY AND COMPASSION The corosponding vice is "Huberous", which is sort of a wrathful pride. Calvary Chappels have this in spades in that they are all ego centric and deal strictly out of an "I'm perfect; you're not OK" mentality. They claim that their closing their eyes to either their neighbor's or the World's problems is just "letting them work out their own karma" or something. What it is some of these people, notibly pastors, have been blessed with such perfect lives in their own eyes they don't want to contemplate putting any of it at risk even for a second, but hope after death to be translated into the Kingdom of Chuck Smith, where The Big Kahuna has his venerated position but they rule right underneath him, with their own children for several generations are viewed by themselves as some sort of a divine race.

BRAVERY: This is one totally missing from the usual seven, as is cowardess missing from the list of vices. But it's such an important one. CS Lewis teaches that Courage is the one thing Satan cannot give his followers. All the things on the negative ledger are things the Calvary Chappels have in abondance. So much of what they do stems for moral or pragmatic cowardess. In my "Prime Directive" blog I refer to these people as "Cowards and hypocrites".

JUSTICE: The pursuit of justice, both for yourselves and for your friends and for your race is what I call an important virtue. Fairness and equity are virtues. But so often the concept of what's right and Fair are denigrated by men of the cloth. In like manner what is Good is seen as dispensible in the name of the Perfect. Just remember this my friend: Po Pot and his raving of Cambodia, and Adolph Hitler, Stalin, and Mao's supression of Tibetan culture are all in the "perfect will of God" because Calvinists believe everything that happens is the will of God. But the Bible says "God saw the earth and it was Good". He didn't say it was "Perfect". Perfection in the Greek has a conotation of fullest development of potential and subsequent immutability. I do not strive as they do for "The Perfect Will of God". I think I can do better than that. Apathy is of course the corosponding vice to all of this.

FORTITUDE, PERSEVERANCE The oposit of these virtues is Slothfullness. This is a vice of the flesh and is one of the origional seven. Many people are plagued with it. Such things as being on a Welfare program are governments means of tempting us by feeding the Flesh.

PRUDENCE, DISCRETION This is the virtue of exercizing wisdom for the moral consequences of our actions. The corosponding vices are more of the fleshly ones such as averice, glutteny, lust, and the like. People don't think things through before they act.

IN OTHER NEWS - - - Thom Hartman talked about that squerrel that was given twenty percent more leaves and things in his nest by some human do-gooder and soon all the squerrels in sight of that nest made their nexts twenty percent more plush themselves. This has to be some sort of self preservation instinct that animals have by way of "Keeping up with the Joneses". It seems George Bush decided to sign that Real Estate bail out bill when a provision was put in to fingerprint all the applicants. How could the President resist that? If you are wondering I am getting vibes anew that someone out there is out to kill Obama. And Mc Cain's words may have an ironic twist about "When I make a speech in Germany I'd like to make it as President". What is this is Obama's last chance to visit Europe? I'm also picking up the vibe now that the Louisiana governor is the man Mc Cain has already picked for Vice President. This is what the governor believes himself, and he's overtly lying when he denies he wants the job.
